What is the Suzuki Method ?
Japanese violinist and pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki created the Talent Education Method in 1946. The method is based on the philosophy that talent is not from birth, that every child can be educated with love by using the right methods. Suzuki's aim is not to train genius musicians, but to raise children with a good character. The Suzuki method is based on the mother tongue approach.
This method was conceived as a result of Suzuki’s observation that children learn to speak their own language fluently without the help of a teacher, simply by listening, imitating, observing, repeating and reinforcing.
Suzuki training starts from a very young age, ideally 3 or 4 years old. The method incorporates the family directly into teaching process.
Suzuki students participate in weekly Private Lessons and Group Classes as part of the standard curriculum. Parents attend both lessons, take notes and practice daily with their child.
Listening to the Suzuki Repertoire every day, along with imitation and repetitions in lessons and practices, is an important part of the learning process.
A normal child learns to read a few years after learning to speak. The same situation is valid in music. Suzuki students learn to play “by ear” first, and then learn to read music.
In the Suzuki training method, the process may be slower than you expect. But remember that every child learns to speak their own language. Creating a calm, patient and supportive environment for your child is our duty as teacher and parent.
As Dr. Suzuki always said
“Never hurry, never stop”.
for the new parents
Suzuki Talent Education has a way of incorporating parents into the educational process. Therefore, I would like to offer free observation lessons to families who are new to the Suzuki education system. You can come and watch with your child and decide if this system is right for you. You can also gain knowledge by reading the books I have suggested below.
